Your ductless air conditioning system should be efficient and economical. If it isn’t, it may be time for repairs or maintenance and a call to our team of professionals at All Seasons Heating and Cooling.
While there is no ductwork like there is in a central air conditioning system, your ductless system is a combination of components working in unison. Any of the following problems in your ductless air conditioner system indicate it is time for repairs:
Refrigerant leaking from your unit is a sign of imminent failure. Its purpose is to absorb heat from your home, cooling the air inside while it transfers the heat outside. When the refrigerant is gone, cooling ceases.
Damp walls around a room’s air handler are evidence of leaking water. The condensate line carrying water away from the air handler and through the wall may be cracked or broken. Serious damage to the wall can occur, and the air handler may even sag or break away from the wall.
Although the system is intended to cool, ice is not a good thing. Ice accumulation on the evaporator coil will prevent it from absorbing heat and transferring it to the refrigerant. Eventually, the unit will not cool your room, and the weight of the ice may severely damage the unit’s coil.
Several issues might cause your unit to blow hot air, including:
Any of these issues require immediate repairs.
An increase in your power bills may indicate that your unit is not operating at peak efficiency. Seasonal variations in power consumption are to be expected, but a sudden surge in power costs may be a sign of a serious problem.
A faulty thermostat can cause the unit to operate more than it should, or not operate when desired. Either result prevents proper cooling of your home.
There are many moving parts in your ductless mini split system. Fan blades can break, motors can burn out, refrigerant and condensate lines can crack and leak. Noise may be associated with these problems if they occur. Any unusual noise should be inspected by a professional to determine the source and cause.
