If you are confused on what a ductless air conditioner is, you are not alone. Many Baltimore residents are unsure what makes a ductless AC different.
It is easiest to think of a ductless air conditioner as something halfway between a window air conditioning unit and central air conditioning. It eliminates the need to install and uninstall a bulky air conditioner in your window every season but it also eliminates the need to invest in having ducts installed into your home to accommodate central air.
With a ductless air conditioner, a cooling compression unit is placed outside your home and secured with concrete. Inside your home, a unit containing a fan is installed near an outside wall or on the ceiling. Copper refrigeration pipes are then used to connect the two unit through small holes drilled in the outside wall. The outside unit is the part that requires electricity, so you won’t have to install additional electrical lines.
Once you turn on the outside unit, a motor works to send the coolant through the copper pipes and into the room containing the second part of the system. When it reaches the inside, the cooler air pushes the warmer air upward because cool air weighs less than warm air. The room is then cooled. Warm air, and any accumulated condensation, is then returned to the outside unit through the same copper pipes so it can be cooled.
A ductless air conditioner offers several advantages to you and your home.
If you are ready to let go of the inconvenience of having to install a heavy window unit this year but aren’t yet ready to deal with the cost and upset caused by having a central air unit installed, then a ductless air conditioner is perfect for you.
